Robeson Creek

South of Raleigh and Route 64 near Pittsboro, North Carolina, the Haw River empties into Jordan Lake and toward the B. Everett Jordan Dam. Constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1967 and 1982, the reservoir was created to help avert flooding down river, to supply water and hydropower to neighboring communities, and to provide the community with hunting, fishing, and recreational activities. The lake is pretty big and has 12 boat ramps, 5 campgrounds, and a bunch of trails along the shoreline.

Since the drive from Greensboro is only one hour, I arrived at the Robeson Creek Canoe Access parking lot at sunrise. I chatted briefly with a wildlife photographer who photographs from a kayak as well. Nice guy.

Once out on the lake, the water was warm and shallow. The shoreline cool and dark. Most of the leaves had yet to change colors or fall from the trees, so I decided to focus on the relationship between the mist above the water and shadows beneath the trees.
